The main part of the site works the HOPS system available to heritage railways for easing the task of working out rosters for staff on operating days.

A great archive of objects and paperwork normally available to the public by appointment. It is housed in the refurbished Derby Museums Silk Mill building. A number of items from the collection are on loan to us at St Albans. The website gives information on the collection and links to various aspects of the Midland Railway Society who now look after the collection.

A friendly website dealing with all aspects and scales of railway modelling and also prototype information. We regularly post details of the box opening days on their calender and maintain an ongoing post on the work at St Albans South as part of our publicity for the box.
National Preservation Forum

A website for all interested in preservation. Contents include Thief Watch (for organisations to report thefts rapidly to fellow preservationists) Railwayana, Steam Traction, Diesel and Electric Traction, Events, Heritage Rolling Stock, Everything else heritage and 'Mutual Improvement classes' for the very technical bits (including signalling).
We used to maintain information on box opening days and work in progress as part of our publicity campaign on this website, but no longer do so due to problems in making entries in late 2018.

North London Society of Model Engineers

The North London Society has their minature railway running tracks and boating pool only a few miles away from us at Colney Heath. See their website for details of public openings during the Summer months.
We co-operate closely with the Society as some members belong to both organisations. As a result we can be found together at several local events during the year.

In October 2022, this organisation erected two cameras looking at the railway line outside our signal box. This organisation has cameras that can be freely viewed (including some heritage railways) and ones available only to site subscribers. Our two cameras fall into the latter category.

The Midland Railway - Butterley

The Midland Railway - Butterley (previously known as the Midland Railway Centre), based at Butterley in Derbyshire, has much of interest to us, including no less than 6 signal boxes of Midland Railway construction. Their box at Swanwick Junction, previously down the line from us at Kettering Station is only two feet less in length than our box and also contains a 44-lever tumbler frame like ours! There are numerous MR signals in use and on display. But being a much bigger site, they also have a 3.5 mile standard gauge line and a 1 mile narrow gauge line which both run trains. There is a museum, workshops and other attractions on site as well.

An interesting site covering thousands of documents regarding UK railways. It is particularly noted for its comprehensive coverage of the official reports compiled by the Railway Inspectorate and more recently the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) into railway accidents from around 1840 onwards.
Many of these accidents were signalling-related, of course, hence our interest in this site.
